Description

A unique and less common species which especially stands out during the mating rituals, where males display their beautiful fins and special colors when kept in an ideal condition. This fish is not for beginners and should be researched prior to provide them an ideal environment where their best features can be experienced.

Mature males have larger yellow dorsal fins with an attractive spotted pattern whereas females will have shorter dorsal fins as shown in the second image on this page.

The Drape Fin Barb is a slower swimming fish that is not suitable for heavily stocked community aquariums with larger species due to their small size and sensitivity, they are best kept in a planted aquarium as a group of at least 8 to 10 to enjoy their best color and behavior.

Suitable tank mates includes smaller tetras and micro fish along with peaceful bottom feeders and cleaners.

Fish Size Guide:

The ‘Maximum Size’ outlined below is the length this fish can reach as a full grown adult. For the actual size please use the select menu above.

Discus.ae prefers younger stock for their better ability to adapt to new water parameters and higher tolerance against transport. On rare occasions you may receive larger specimens when small fish are unavailable, however the smallest should be expected unless the size is noted as “Large” or “Adult”.
